lyrics

You can kneel until your knees bleed
I still can’t see what you hope to achieve
Poor give to the rich what they can’t afford
To allay retribution from a mythical lord
Is it worth it in the end, this masquerade?
Do you think your place in heaven can be prepaid?
Why can’t you see through the carry on
And realise you’re the victim of a long running con?

Blind acceptance and hope are what you live by
As you kid yourself to the end
If the system didn’t have such a vested interest
They would say that you were round the bend
Eradicate thousands of years of lies
It isn’t really too hard to see
The only place you go when you die
Is to the cemetery

The preacher recounts the fantasies of hope
Stay humble and meek is what you’re told
All are equal under God, you’re asked to embrace
While reinforcing the teachings that keep women in their place
Contradictions are so many you could break the hold
God gives you freedom of action is what you’re told
If a god existed would it really stand lame
While war, death and suffering were performed in its name?

Blind acceptance and hope are what you live by
As you kid yourself to the end
If the system didn’t have such a vested interest
They would say that you were round the bend
Eradicate thousands of years of lies
It isn’t really too hard to see
The only place you go when you die
Is to the cemetery

You quote at me from an age old book
That can be used to back up anything depending where you look
It’s been used against the masses for many years
To imprison their minds while trading on their fears
What makes you think the authors had special insight?
They were the educated, not many could read or write
Is it not more likely, who would have known,
That they falsified the truth to maintain the status quo?

Blind acceptance and hope are what you live by
As you kid yourself to the end
If the system didn’t have such a vested interest
They would say that you were round the bend
Eradicate thousands of years of lies
It isn’t really too hard to see
The only place you go when you die
Is to the cemetery
